COH Bible & Hike 2022!
Come adventure! This summer, two groups from Community of Hope will be heading to the mountains to backpack through the Roan Highlands, which is one of the most beautiful sections of the Appalachian Trail. We take backpacking trips because they're such an awesome way to get away from our normal routines, enjoy God's creation, stretch physical and mental limits, bond with one another community, and grow in our faith as we pray, read scripture, and worship in the great outdoors.
This year’s hike is a moderate, 3-day, 21 mile hike. You should expect long days, sore legs, beautiful views, time to connect with Jesus in creation, and fun together as a group. When we're done hiking, we'll end our trip with a whitewater rafting adventure, a hotel night, (real showers and beds, oh my!), and team bonding before driving home.
Basic Info:
Who can go?
There are two trips this summer:
The Adult Bible & Hike (June 8-12) is for anyone 18 years or older.
The Intergenerational Bible & Hike: (July 18-22) is for anyone 14 years or older. We do have a group size limit for these trips, so if you think you may want to come, please register as soon as possible. You don't need to be an experienced outdoor enthusiast to go. All you need is a good attitude, a willingness to hike long days, and desire to grow personally.
When are the trips?
Adult Bible & Hike: Wednesday, June 8 - Sunday, June 12
Intergenerational Bible & Hike: Monday, July 18 - Friday, July 22
Where are the trips?
Both trips will follow the same itinerary. We will meet at Community of Hope, drive to Carvers Gap on the border of North Carolina & Tennessee, and hike a beautiful section of the Appalachian Trail called the Roan Highlands. Following the hike, we will spend a half-day white water rafting then staying in a hotel for a fun team night/trip debrief before returning home. The detailed itinerary will be shared at our pre-departure meeting!
What is the trip cost?
The cost of this trip is $210 per person which includes all transportation costs, whitewater rafting, and a one-night stay at our hotel with hotel breakfast included. Checks can be made out to Community of Hope. If this cost is prohibitive to you, contact us (jolaina@cohchurch.com) and we can explore scholarship opportunities!
*Backpacking meals as well as meals on the drive down/back/hotel night are not included in this cost. Jojo will host a food prep workshop for those who would like to have backpacking meals provided on the intergenerational trip. Cost for this is $15 in addition to the trip cost and includes breakfasts, lunches, snacks, and coffee or tea for each backpacking day on the trail.
How do I register?
To register for either trip, please out the form below. Payment can be turned in on the day of departure. Our deadline to register for the adult hike is May 22nd and our deadline to register for the youth hike is June 30. If you are thinking about registering but have a question you'd like answered first, feel free to use the form below.
What will I need to bring?
Jojo will send out a comprehensive list of what to pack. When you register, she will contact you to talk about gear. You don’t need to personally own a lot of this stuff, as we know several people willing to lend out backpacking items when needed.
